What is CEREC Dentistry?
The dental industry and its technologies are constantly evolving and growing. As new techniques are brought into dentists’ offices around the country, new terms and acronyms enter the lexicon.
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics and is a new technology that is used in saving patients both time and money.
What is CEREC dentistry?
When someone is having issues with his or her teeth, there can be many hurdles to get over to find a solution. One of the most common complaints that patients have is when a dental solution ends up taking multiple trips to resolve.
CEREC dentistry has become popular with both dentists and patients. The use of these new technologies makes it possible for patients to have full procedures that would typically take multiple trips. Instead, it only takes one!
Not only does the patient save time and money when their dental office uses these procedures, but the results are also more advantageous and more accurate. It gives the dentist a more “hands-on” approach and can produce results that leave people shocked that they can be completed in one day.
How can CEREC help you?
The most common comment that patients have about a dental office that utilizes these technologies is the convenience. For patients that need crowns, inlays or onlays, they can have their issue resolved and the entire procedure completed in one day.
The procedures mentioned above typically require at least two visits to the dentist and sometimes more depending on your particular dental situation. Instead of having two to three weeks wearing a temporary device while the permanent is made, the patient will have the device created and installed in the same visit.
Are the devices just as strong?
It is easy to assume that by having the convenience of having the crafting and installation of the device in one day that it may not have the same strength. The opposite is true!
The inlays, onlays and crowns are crafted with the CEREC technology using a solid block of materials. Typically, they are crafted in a laboratory using a mixture of pressed ceramic and metal. Although it may not seem like a big deal, when it comes to the strength of these devices constructed from a single block, there is a big difference. Luckily, it is positive and in the patient’s best interest.
Will they last a long time?
Again, people may assume that these implants will not last as long. Devices crafted using the CEREC technology are longer-lasting than those made of the pressed ceramic and metal. Because they are crafted on the same day in the same office, the color will also be closer to the patient’s other natural teeth.
